I’m drowning in education!

In the past few months I’ve been doing a lot of changing. I’ve been taking my exercise and food seriously. I started by joining the gym. Then I made *gasp* goals. Then I started making my own baby food. And then…I read food blogs. I found this one today:http://www.fooducate.com/blog/ and after reading a lot of it, I’m left with a bitter taste in my mouth. I was actually eating Craisins when I read a blog about how I shouldn’t. Then there’s Matt’s beloved NutriGrain bars…

It all started today when I wanted to find out if Yoplait’s new Greek Yogurt was worth the hype. Oh boy am I glad I checked it out. Basically, it’s bad for you. Well, it’s not really good. The protein comes from either Yak or Water Buffalo milk that’s been dried and ground into a powder…ick, blech, gross!!! Why can’t anything be made the way it’s supposed to be? Why can’t I just be able to read a label and understand what the heck it means without having to take a class in “Bad For You Chemicals 101” ?!?

*sigh*

(Side note: I then made a trip to Trader Joe’s for some groceries and felt good about myself. Unless I need a whole mess of stuff, it’s nice going to TJ’s. They have most of what I need, especially when it comes to the basic staples. )

After being mentally altered for a while, I decided to:

1. Never buy Valutime products again.

2. Read EVERY label.

3. Ask myself if saving 20 cents is worth it.

4. NEVER EVER eat Yoplait AGAIN.

Next on my education binge, I read at http://www.active.com/ how I can mix some crosstraining into my regular training. This then lead into an article about pre-run warm ups and then there was a link about h0w to avoid running injuries…

After being mentally beat-up for a while, I’ve decided to:

1. ALWAYS stretch no matter how much I just don’t want to.

2. Remember that even after running a few miles in a day, it’s more than a lot of people have done in a week.

3. Pre-run workouts are a must.

4. Don’t become a workout Nazi like some of the people who comment, saying they run 100+ miles a week. Really? Really?

REALLY?!?

Kudos to you, I guess.

Now it’s off to the gym where I plan on jogging a few miles and then biking until I feel like it. Yup. That’s what I call training!

  1. Re: Food stuff

Ignorance is bliss. I think I’ll be happier just enjoying my food.

(In my world, hamburger is grown from hamburger trees. Right next to the bacon fields.)

  2. If I had a nickel for everytime I got ahold of some bad Yak or water buffalo milk… don’t get me started!

  3. Thanks for the Fooducate tip! The Guy and I have been reading and grossing ourselves out.

P.S. Besides coming from really ugly animals, is yak or water-buffalo milk really bad for you? I mean, we drink milk from goats (I do, anyway), and they’re not very pretty either.

Of course, most people say we shouldn’t consume milk from other animals in the first place, but those people don’t love cheese the way I do.

    • I think it’s not so much the animal’s breed that makes the milk iffy, it’s where the animal came from. I guess we’re importing our yak and water-buffalo milk from under-developed countries that have few laws on health regulations.

And I have an unhealthy love of cheese, too. 🙂
