Food Porn!

Be warned.

So I know this isn’t a food blog, but I’m pretty sure I’d be sent to jail for withholding information if I didn’t share this with y’all.

For my birthday a few months ago, Matt made me this sandwich that was absolutely to die for. Last night, I just had to have it. So I made it. Now you guys can enjoy it.

Fancy Schmancy Grilled Turkey and Cheese (I made the name up.)

Bread
Parmesan Cheese (either kraft or fresh’ll do)
egg, beaten
a splash of milk
a sprinkle or two of garlic powder (depending on how you like it, personally, I like to offend.)
1 tbs ketchup or bbq sauce (again, depending on likes)
1 tbs mustard
turkey, sliced thick from the deli
extra sharp cheddar cheese, sliced

OK, so here’s what you do. Melt butter in a frying pan. In a small bowl, mix together egg, milk, and garlic powder. In a separate bowl, pour a bunch of parm cheese. Dip the bread in the egg mix on one side, then dip the egged bread into the parm. Place in a pan, over the butter and add your turkey and cheese. Mix together the ketchup and mustard and paint on to the bread, then egg and parm cheese it up again.

I made my own bread, but you can totally use the supermarket’s. Bread machine bread doesn’t work well. So if you make your own, do it by hand. The kind I made is a perfect blend of sweet, yeast and salt. So good. I recommend that it’s thickly sliced. And wonder bread or any presliced bread just won’t do.

I cooked it on medium heat until it was golden brown on each side.

It’s SO EFFING GOOD.

I’m sure you can play around with the cheeses and meat, but I tried it once with swiss and it just wasn’t the same. I’m like an old person that way because I’m set in my ways. So I’m sure it’s really good any other way.

Now that you’re all hungry, I’ll let you know how the 30 day Shred is going. I finished day 8 today and I’m going to move up early to level 2. Level 1 is too easy anymore and I don’t feel as if I’m benefiting from it as much as I had been, so I went to the gym and ran a few miles. However, it does feel good that I mastered a level. I went from doing half assed pushups to knocking them out like I was back at basic in just a few days.

Tomorrow I’m sure I’m going to hurt and beg to go back to level 1, but the way I see it is I’m looking for results and they don’t come for free. For me, physicalness is easy, I just suck at the whole mental issues. I was that way in the Army. I physically could run marathons, but my mind gets in the way. Or I get bored. Or I just don’t feel like doing it any more. And so on and so forth.

The only difference between the Army and now is that no one tells me I have to do it or I’ll get fucked up. I guess that was a good motivator. And I miss that. That’s why I’m starting back into my spin classes on Sunday. The chick that does that particular class is a work horse and I like it that way. I can’t tell myself to shut up, but she can.

  1. I miss doing spin class (in a sick sort of way). My energy level has hit rock bottom and I’m sort of looking forward to being able to work out again.

    Good luck!

  2. I am going to have to try that sandwich this week! Super hungry now! 🙂

  3. You are such an inspiration to me! Next week, when I get a clean bill of health from the OB, The Guy and I have committed to doing some form of exercise everyday. We discovered we have a beautiful walking path about two miles from the house!

    • Just gentle walking is the ticket, girl 🙂 I have a great prenatal DVD that I got to review on my Mom’s blog. When she gives it away I’ll make sure to let you know to see if you can win!
